We have a rigid Health and Safety policy at The Garra Spa for the upkeep and maintenance of our Garra Rufa fish and equipment.

Our Garra Rufa tank systems are continuously fed with freshly filtered water, recycling the water within each individual tank over 15 times per hour. 

The water in our Garra Rufa tanks passes through a four stage filter system including our high powered ultra violet light system that instantly kills any harmful bacteria. This creates a healthy enviroment for both our fish and your feet.

Is there any shared water in the Garra Rufa Spa?

NO - Each tank is an individual foot spa, so no water is shared with other clients, each spa also has its own filter and ultra violet system for hygiene and maintenance reasons.

Is there any risk of infection?

NO - There has been no known cases of an infection being passed from one party to another through the use of a Garra Spa system. The water is constantly being purified and sterilised using our four stage filter system and ultra violet light technology.

We also inspect all feet before allowing use of our Garra Spa systems and will refuse any clients with open wounds or other conditions that would be a danger to our fish and to our clients.

 HERE’S A FEW MASSAGE FISH FACTS

1. The fish do not have teeth, they cannot hurt you.

2. We ask if you have open cuts for the good feeling of other people – the fish don’t mind and the systems are powerful enough to eliminate any contaminations.

3. There is no such thing as mad fish disease!

4. Our systems are very powerful, all of the water in each tank is circulated and sterilised with UVC light every 5 minutes or so.

5. Varrucas and athletes foot are OK. You only get them from dry floors – not through water. So ….. we use booties whenever the feet are out of the tanks – simple.

6. Nail varnish is OK providing you have not just put it on or taken it off.

7. If it smells a bit fishy in here, that’s because it is ……… sorry. We don’t use heavy fragrances as over a period of time the oil bases can contaminate the tank waters and upset the fish.

 8. Our commitment – because we use the ‘wild’ fishes and lots of big ones – you will receive a PROPER fish massage here.

9. Minimum number of fish to receive a proper treatment is 200(whole body, 80 pedicure/manicure.

10. A 15 minute treatment is only a tickle, you need 10 minutes in the warm water before your skin is soft enough for the fish to remove it therefore the suggested treatment time is 30 minutes plus.

11. Garra Rufa fish will happily graze all day long, this is what they do in the wilds. They do not get full up like we do.

12. The fish need to be fed every day regardless of how many clients go through.

13. When first introduced into the tanks we have to use lids as they can and will easily jump out.

14. The treatment is natural and so like any natural treatment is it time based, the fish aren’t magic!

15. These fish are our pampered pets, we give them much more attention than most pets get.

16. Some emotions with the fish massage – apprehension, excitement, fear, nervousness, worry, joy, concern, confusion, relaxation, calmness, contemplation.

17. Some reported results:- sleeping better, foot numbness reducing, blemishes reducing, Karma with nature, reduced fear of going into the sea, appreciation of nature.
